NATIONAL FRIENDSHIP DAY HISTORY

  • National Friendship Day was originally founded by Hallmark in 1919. It was intended to be a day for people to celebrate their friendship by sending each other cards. However, by 1940 the market had dried up, and eventually, it died out completely. Then, in 1998 Winnie the Pooh was named the world’s Ambassador of Friendship at the United Nations.

  • In April 2011, the United Nations officially recognized 30th July as International Friendship Day; although most countries celebrate on the first Sunday of August!

On the first Sunday in August, National Friendship Day encourages people across the country and world to connect with friends. Make a new friend or reconnect with an old one. Friendships come in many forms, and we begin developing them when we’re very young. Throughout our lives, friendships and their meanings evolve.

  • Our classmates and neighborhood pals explored the world with us.Together we shared experiences and made plans for the future.

Friendships are the purest type of human relationships. For more than a century, we’ve celebrated the strength of friendship, and thanks to social media, we’re able to continue celebrating with our friends no matter where they are in the world.Thanks to advancements in technology, it is easier to get in touch with friends, to share, and to be thankful for them.

Who celebrates Friendship Day

  • Many countries in Asia, Argentina, Paraguay, Peru, India, Finland, Estonia, Brazil, United Arab Emirates, and United States all celebrate Friendship Day which first started in Paraguay in 1958 and since has spread to many other countries.

Friendship Day is celebrated with enthusiasm all over the world. On this eve, everyone

congratulates and wishes their friends in their special ways. Friendship Day is celebrated as a festival amongst the youth in India too. Friendship Day will be celebrated across the country on August 1 this year.

  • Friendship is one of the most important and valuable things in our life. It is the most beautiful gifts you can present to anyone. You meet many people in a way of life but only a few stay with you forever.
