Indian Navy Day
“Indian Navy Day always reminds us of all our heroes
who are standing strong to keep us safe.”

Navy Day is celebrated on the 4th of December every year in India. It is an initiative that recognizes the achievements and role of the Indian Navy. Indian Navy Day is also celebrated to express our gratitude and pay tribute to the heroes who lost their lives protecting the citizens of India and their motherland in the war between India and Pakistan in 1971.
Do you know, “When was the Indian Navy established?” It was founded in 1612 by the East India Company. During the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, Pakistan launched an attack on the Indian air bases on December 3. In response to their offensive attacks, the Indian Navy planned an attack on the night of 4-5 December, as Pakistan did not have the aircraft to carry out the bombings.
The Indian Navy targeted the Pakistan Navy headquarters in Karachi during Operation Trident. She launched three missile boats, INS Veer, INS Nipat and INS Nirghat, and Vidyut-class boats, towards Karachi and sank three Pakistan Navy vessels, including PNS Khaibar. Hundreds of Pakistani naval personnel were killed during the attack. Commodore Kasargud Pattanasheti Gopal Rao led the entire operation of the Indian Navy.
To celebrate the success of the Indian Navy, Indian Navy Day is celebrated across the country. People wish Happy Indian Navy Day to each other, marking a sign of honoring the Navy and creating awareness of the hardships faced by personnel in war.
