Updated: Apr 15, 2022

Mahavir Jayanti is being celebrated today. This is the biggest festival of Jainism. On this day Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, was born. Lord Mahavir was born about two and a half thousand years ago (599 years before BC), in the republic state of Vaishali, Kshatriya Kundalpur. At the age of thirty, Mahavira renounced the glory of the kingdom after becoming detached from the world and after adopting sannyasa, went on the path of self-welfare.

Significance of Mahavir Jayanti

After 12 years of hard penance, Lord Mahavir attained only knowledge and at the age of 72, he attained salvation from Pavapuri. During this, many followers of Mahavir Swami were formed, including the prominent kings of that time, Bimbisara, Kunika, and Chetak. Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated by Jain society on the birthday of Mahavir Swami and his salvation day as Deepawali.

What is Panchsheel Siddhanta?-

The life of Lord Mahavir Swami, the 24th Tirthankar of Jainism, is his message. Tirthankara Mahavir Swami described non-violence as the highest moral virtue.
