Morality:-

“Morality is necessary when spiritually isabsent. ”

Morality can be a body of standards or principles derived from a code of conduct from a particular philosophy, religion or culture, or it can derive from a standard that a person believes should be universal. Morality may also be specifically synonymous with "goodness" or "rightness".

Now, when we talk about “Morality” a question arises what is “Morality”in real and broader sense?

So Morality is the belief that some behaviour is right and acceptable and that other behaviour is wrong and not acceptable.

A Morality is a system of principles and values concerning people’s behaviour, which is generally accepted by a society or by a particular group of people. If a person has never learned about moral values then he will not be able to differentiate between right or wrong.

“Morality is the basis of things and truth is the substance of all morality. ”

--- Mahatma Gandhi

Crumblingmoralvaluesintoday’ssociety:-

The Vedas and the Upanishads talk of the Gurukul, where the students worshipped their Guruas gods and the school was a temple of knowledge. But today it is disheartening to see that the youth lacks moral values and self-discipline. Moral values and graciousness, in the past, were prominent in the most teenagers. Most of the young people then, learnt respect, courtesy, consideration, decency, honesty and righteousness from a young age, and had enough self-discipline to hold on to these values.

However, these moral values and self-discipline are slowly diminishing over the years, as most of the younger generation is gradually disregarding these ethics.

This lack of self-discipline and self- control is becoming more and more prevalent in today’s generation. Today most of the people are very impatient and bigoted. Their only priority is they, themselves. If morals are not taught, our children will make decisions based on emotions, needs and desire and not on sound judgement and they take the short -cut and easy path even if it is wrong.

So, looking at the current scenario of moral values in our children it has become very much necessary to inculcate moral values in them.

“ To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menance to society. “

-Theodore Roosevelt.

Thefollowingreasonsoutlinetheimportanceofgoodmoralvaluestoourchildren:-

· Morality helps to build a child’s character.

· It helps them to differentiate right from wrong.

· Morality also helps to change a child’s perception about the world.

· It determines their adult behavior.

· It helps them to cope with difficult situations.

· It helps them to take sound judgement.

Moral values help children to concrete the standard of right and wrong within their society based on social and cultural norms and laws.

How important morality is ,in one’s life is reflected in the following lines by DayaNandan

“A man loses little when he loses his wealth,

A man loses more when he loses his health,

But there is one thing that if lost will make him fall,

Morality, for when he loses that he loses it all.

Without a sense of morality mankind would be lost,

We would commit to many cruelties like the holocaust,

If we are unable to differentiate between right and wrong.

How can mankind possibly achieve a future so bright?
