National Youth Day

National Youth Day, also known as Vivekananda Jayanti, is celebrated on 12 January, being the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. In 1984 the Government of India declared this day as National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year. The Government of India quoted that 'the philosophy of Swamiji and the ideals for which he lived and worked could be a great source of inspiration for the Indian Youth Day.'

The National Youth Day is observed all over India at schools and colleges, with processions, speeches, music, youth conventions, seminars, Yogasanas, presentations, competitions in essay-writing, recitations and sports on 12 January every year. Swami Vivekananda's lectures and writings, deriving their inspiration from Indian spiritual tradition and the broad outlook of his Master Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa. These were the source of inspiration and have motivated numerous youth organizations, study circles and service projects involving the youth.


National Youth Day creates awareness and provides knowledge about the rights of people in India. It is a day to educate people to behave properly in the country. The main objective behind the celebration is to make a better future for the country by motivating the youths and spreading the ideas of the Swami Vivekananda. National Youth Day is also famous as Yuva Diwas.

On account of Youth Day a small drawing and essay competition were organized among the students of Higher Secondary of Gajera Vidyabhavan Sachin. In that competition, they displayed their skills and creativity by drawing the images of Swami Vivekananda and on theme of Youth day. Yadav Nigam of std XI stood 1st in drawing competition whereas Pathak Sonam of std XI got 1st rank in essay competition. A speech was delivered by Kaswala Jensi on Youth Day. At the end, a PPT presentation on life lessons of Swami Vivekananda was done by Tripathi Kartikey student of Std XI.
