The National Sports Day

The National Sports Day in India is celebrated on 29 August, on the birth anniversary of hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. This day marks the birthday of Major Dhyan Chand Singh, the hockey player who won gold medals in Olympics for India in the years 1928, 1932 and 1936.
On this day, the President of the country, Rajiv Gandhi gives awards like Khel Ratna, Arjuna and Dronacharya Award to the nominees. In such a situation, let us know who was Major Dhyan Chand is called the magician of hockey. He was born on 29 August 1905 in a Rajput family in Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh. Dhyan Chand, who went to play the Olympics for the first time in 1928, showed such magic of his hockey in this entire tournament that the opposing teams started getting scared just after seeing him on the field. In the Olympics played in the Netherlands in 1928, Dhyan Chand scored 14 goals in 5 matches and won the gold medal for India. After this victory, thousands of people gave a warm welcome to the team in Bombay Harbour.
Year 1932:
Dhyan Chand did not face any problem in repeating the charisma of 1928. India won their first match against Japan 11-1 in the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles. Not only this, in the final of this tournament, India defeated USA 24-1 and created a world record which was later broken in the year 2003. India once again became a gold medalist in this Olympics.
Year 1936:
This Olympics was going to be the most memorable for Dhyan Chand, who studied at Aligarh Muslim University. Gold was once again expected from the Indian team that reached Berlin under the captaincy of Dhyan Chand. The Indian team lived up to the expectations in this tournament as well and reached the finals beating the opposing teams. In the final, India was to face German Chancellor Adolf Hitler's team from Germany.
Hitler himself had also reached to see this match. But Hitler's presence or absence was not going to affect the performance of the Indian team or Dhyan Chand. However, before this match, the Indian team was in tension as the Indian team had to face defeat against Germany in the earlier match. But after landing on the field, that tension went away on its own.
Year 1948:
Major Dhyan Chand played his last match in the year 1948 and scored more than 400 goals in his entire tenure. Which is a record.
Honors:
Major Dhyan Chand was awarded India's third highest civilian honour. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the year 1956. Even today no player has been able to reach the records that Dhyan Chand made one record after another in hockey. In the memory of this great player, today is celebrated as National Sports Day.
The major reason for celebrating National Sports Day is to highlight and spread awareness about the importance of sports and staying fit in daily life.
After 2012 when the day was first celebrated in India, the government has used this day to announce several sports-related schemes which also include the Khelo India movement.
It was announced by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in 2018.
The president of India also honours several sports personalities with some of India's prestigious sporting awards like Khel Ratna, Arjuna Awards, Dronacharya Awards and also the Dhyan Chand Award.
Dhyan Chand Award recognises the lifetime contribution of an athlete in his field. This year, the award ceremony will be held virtually for the first time because of the pandemic situation in India.
President of India, Ram Nath Kovind will be presenting the winners with awards virtually.

Our Gajera School celebrated National Sport Day for secondary section physically and students played indoor as well as outdoor games and knew about the importance of sports in our life. Sports makes us healthy & fir . For primary and pre - primary section we organized virtual sport day where our little Gajerians celebrated this day at home while keeping the safety of covid -19. They played indoor games and outdoor games also with their family members and with by maintaining the guidelines of covid-19 .While playing the games our kids shared their bonding with their family or friends and even enjoyed a lot during ths time of pandamic our kids trying to maintain their health also to become healthy and fit .
